BSBA in Accounting Information Systems

Certification and Licensure

Certification is highly recommended in accounting and accounting information systems and a few are specifically geared toward AIS professionals. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is sponsored by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Candidates for CPA certification must possess a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited college-level institution.

Candidates interested in the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification must be of good moral character, be employed or expect to be employed in the management accounting area, and hold a bachelor's degree or its equivalent form an accredited college-level institution. Most importantly, the applicant must already be a certified public accountant.

Many certifications exist for those entering the accounting and/or accounting information systems profession. The most widely recognized certifications and licensure include:

Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)

A Certified Information Systems Auditor is ISACA's cornerstone certification. Since 1978, the CISA exam has measured excellence in IS auditing, control and security. The CISA certification has been earned by more than 50,000 professionals since inception and has grown to be a globally recognized symbol of achievement.

Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP)

The CITP credential is based on the premise that all business-technology decisions have financial implications, and that nobody is better suited to consult on business-related decisions than Certified Public Accountants. The CITP encourages and recognizes excellence in the delivery of technology-related services by CPA professionals.

The AICPA provides tools, training, and support to help CPAs become technologically adept and provide greater benefit to the business and academic communities they serve.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
The AICPA has resources available to students and CPA candidates to guide you in the right direction as you prepare for a career as a CPA.

Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
The Institute of Management Accountants is dedicated to rebalancing the accountancy profession by educating society regarding the business building role of management accountants and finance professionals working inside organizations.
