Awards and Scholarships

As an Accounting student at Duquesne University's A.J. Palumbo School of Business Administration, there are several awards and scholarships that may be available to you. The accounting faculty strongly encourages you to apply for as many of these awards and scholarships as you are qualified.

Given students will apply for multiple awards and scholarships in any given year, we have attempted to simplify and streamline the application process as much as possible. Therefore, please be sure to follow these instructions when applying. Also, a summary page is provided to help you during the application process.

 
Distinguished Accounting Scholar
  Awarded annually to a qualified junior accounting student who demonstrates a 3.8 overall QPA, 3.9 accounting QPA, and leadership activities. Juniors are eligible to apply. This award is renewable in the student’s senior year so long as they maintain their eligibility requirements.
 
Outstanding Accounting Student Achievement Award
  Awarded annually to two accounting students who demonstrate a 3.5 QPA and significant professional or community service. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible to apply.
 
Accounting Alumni Awards
  Awarded annually to qualified accounting students who demonstrate a 3.5 overall QPA, DU and community contribution, and employment history. Juniors and seniors are eligible to apply.
 
Accounting Alumni Scholarships
  Awarded annually to qualified accounting students who demonstrate a 3.0 overall QPA, unmet financial need, DU and community contribution, and employment history. Juniors and seniors are eligible to apply.
 
Edward Milcic Memorial Scholarship
  Awarded annually to a qualified accounting student who demonstrates a 2.75 overall QPA, financial need as determined by Office of Financial Aid, DU and community contribution, and employment history. Sophomores, juniors and seniors are eligible to apply.
 
Consol Energy Academic Excellence Award
  Awarded annually to two qualified accounting students who demonstrate a 3.4 overall QPA and community service. Juniors and seniors are eligible to apply.
 
Consol Energy "Fuel Your Future" Awards
  Awarded annually to two qualified accounting students who demonstrate a 3.4 overall QPA and Duquesne and community contribution. Sophomores are eligible to apply.
 
John L. McDonough Jr. Endowed Scholarship
  Awarded annually to up to two qualified accounting students who demonstrate financial need as determined by Office of Financial Aid and a 3.25 QPA. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are eligible to apply. This scholarship is renewable so long as the student maintains their eligibility requirements.
 
Accounting Advisory Board Senior Merit Award
 

Awarded annually to a qualified accounting student who demonstrates a cumulative QPA of 3.5 or higher in accounting courses, fall semester overall QPA of 3.5 or higher, and leadership and community service. Seniors are eligible to apply.

 
Institute of Internal Auditors Outstanding Accounting Student Award
 

One award will be given to a junior or senior student who demonstrate a 3.5 overall QPA, significant DU and community contribution, and who has expressed an interest in a career in Internal Auditing.

   
Joseph T. Senko Endowed Scholarship
 

This endowment was established by Thaddeus J. Senko, B'78 in honor of his father, Joseph T. Senko, B'57. The first preference for awarding this scholarship is for students majoring in accounting with demonstrated financial need. The second preference is for students of Slovak descent. Multiple awards totaling $4,000 will be made on the basis of written applications.

   
KPMG Alumni Award
  The KPMG Alumni Award is intended to honor an accounting student who has made substantive contributions to the university and/or the community through involvement in professional and/or community service while maintaining excellence in her/his accounting studies. An award in the amount of $1,600 will be given to a sophomore or junior student with a declared concentration in either Accounting or Accounting Information Systems.
   
Robert A dePalma Memorial Endowed Scholarship Award
  Up to three $1,600 scholarships will be awarded this year to qualified juniors and seniors from the A.J. Palumbo School of Business Administration who are majoring in Accounting and have an overall GPA of 2.75 to 3.25.
   
James Louis Radakovich Endowed Scholarship Award
  Up to two $1,800 scholarships will be awarded this year to qualified juniors and seniors from the A.J. Palumbo School of Business Administration who are majoring in Accounting and Information Systems Management have an overall GPA of 2.5.
