Program Schedule

Session 1: Introduction

  • Welcome and introductions
  • Why do companies gather information?
  • Using Microsoft Excel® 2007 for Decision Making and Problem Solving

Session 2: Microsoft Excel® 2007 (continued)

Few software programs have elevated the importance of desktop computers for business managers as much as Microsoft Excel. Similar to the way they use e-mail, business managers use Excel every day to accomplish their daily routines and objectives. We will provide a general overview of Excel and the reasons it is such a vital tool for business managers.

Session 3: Microsoft Excel® 2007 (continued)

Participants will be introduced to the calculating power of Excel through two main objectives. The first is to present the fundamental techniques of creating formulas and functions, which are the primary tools used to calculate data. The second is to show how cell referencing is used within formulas and functions to maximize the dynamic abilities of Excel. In other words, formulas and functions will automatically produce new outputs when the data in one or more cell locations is changed.

In business, these dynamic abilities are critical when evaluating what-if scenarios. This session develops the concept of what-if scenarios even further by demonstrating how to perform common business calculations and analyses using formulas and functions.

Session 4: Macromedia Fireworks®
