Summary: This research project aims to determine "How Prepared Are Small and Medium Enterprises to Thwart Computer Attacks?" We formulated three research objectives to address this issue: (1) to determine the degree to which cyber-security preparedness matches the cyber threats with different levels of technology; (2) to determine what types of computer vulnerabilities (economic or intellectual property) are most prevalent; and (3) to determine whether any one industry is at more risk than other industries.

THE ROLE OF HUMAN COLLABORATION IN VIRTUAL MANUFACTURING ENTERPRISES

Subject Area: Technology Marketing

Author(s): Kenneth Saban & John R. Mawhinney
Year: 2005

Summary: Advances in Information Technology (IT) coupled with the creation of the World Wide Web (WWW) and Internet have not only generated a more efficient means for manufacturers to interact with their customers, but also for customers to access a wide-array of information on product options, pricing and availability. This latter change has, in many ways, shifted the power from the seller to the buyer. As a result, many manufacturers are working to advance their business models to keep pace with the rapid changes occurring with their customers. If manufacturers fail to keep pace with escalating customer expectations, they send a strong message to competitors and new market entrants to explore weaknesses in their organizational policies, strategies, operations, relationships and infrastructure (Gartner 2002). One way Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and Prime Contractors (PRIME) have responded to this challenge is by revamping their supply chains, which is defined as the material and information interchanges in the logistical process stretching from acquisition of raw materials to delivery of finished product to the end user (Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, 2005).
